-I smell the pine scent coming from the pine trees. -I need there to be a reflection of the clouds in the water. -I wonder what the person at the edge of the lake is doing. -I feel calmness coming from the painting. -I want the person at the edge of the lake to be doing something more noticeable. Dear Ella, I am writing to you from Landscape with a Lake by Washington Allston. The scent of pine trees is really strong here. And the water looks really still but I know there is a lot of activity going on under it with all the water life. There is a vast cliff across the lake, I wonder what it would be like to jump off it into the water. I will send you another postcard when I get to my next destination. From, Hailey

A new technique that I learned during the time that we painted was that I learned how to get a watery look for the water in the picture. I got it by adding a little more water to the watercolor paint and brushed it onto the paper. Before the paint dries I used a dry paint brush to spread the color more and it created an ombre effect. While I was working on my project, I used ink the get the shaded spots. But I faced a challenge because I got two ink spots where I didn't need it. So instead of trying to paint over them I added wings to the sides of them so they looked like birds. I devolped many skills during the how to use pen and ink bootcamp. By learning about the Book of Kells I expanded my global awareness of art. I created my own original art when I designed my own illuminated letter. I also collaborated and reflected on other peoples works during our formal and informal critiques. |
